Photography backdrop 5155 test – an atmospheric Christmas session

What does photography backdrop 5155 look like after printing? We show it during a real session with two children, using directional Profoto lighting, a Premium fabric backdrop and vinyl floor P-2321.

Fast studio setup

A Premium backdrop that quickly creates a complete set

We printed pattern 5155 on Premium fabric in a size of 290 × 200 cm. The backdrop was finished with a tunnel and a bottom weight. The fabric stretched very well, hung straight and did not require any additional preparation.

Setting up the stands, hanging the backdrop and arranging the basic set took about five minutes. This is a practical advantage when several sets have to be prepared during one working day.

The real scale of the set with two children

The session featured Hania, who wears size 134, and Rozalka, who wears size 98. Their clothing sizes help show the true scale of the printed scene when working with children of different heights. The 290 × 200 cm format allowed us to create full-length, seated and closer portrait frames.

Lighting used in the test

Directional Profoto light and a darker atmosphere

For this test I used a Profoto B1 500 Air TTL with an umbrella and diffuser. The umbrella was turned more strongly toward the photographer. The light was very directional, while the surroundings of the set remained darker.

This made the background more contrasty and gave the models soft, atmospheric light. The lighting choice is intentional: the printed backdrop itself is not as dark as it appears in my finished photographs.

A few versatile props were enough

For the arrangement I used a sequin dress from Szpilka Photo Props, a secretary desk with a bench from Otwarty Warsztat and a telephone from Słowianka. These are versatile elements that can return in many Christmas sets. The telephone gives children something to do, while the desk and bench make it easier to vary poses and shooting heights.

Before and after my signature editing

My editing style is deliberately darker and more contrasty. The comparison below shows how much the final mood depends on the photographer's own colour treatment. The first photograph is shown without my signature editing; the second presents the finished version. Every photographer can interpret this backdrop in a completely different way.

Without my signature editing: a brighter, more neutral rendering of the printed scene.

After my editing: deeper shadows, stronger contrast and a warmer Christmas atmosphere.

Star-shaped bokeh as an optional effect

In several photographs I added star-shaped bokeh. Clients sometimes enjoy this kind of effect. It will not suit every frame, but here it enhances the festive, fairy-tale mood. It is an optional finishing touch rather than part of the printed design.

Not only for Christmas sessions

Pattern 5155 can also work beautifully for women's portraits, Valentine's Day sessions and birthday photographs. The strings of lights gave this particular arrangement its Christmas character, but the elegant boho interior can be styled in many other ways later in the year.

Red, burgundy and green outfits look especially effective here, but brown and gold will also complement the warm palette. This makes the backdrop a stylish and reusable choice rather than a design limited to one short season.
