Photography backdrop 2876 tested in a children’s session
We show not only the finished photographs, but also the set size, lighting arrangement, camera settings and framing ideas used with a seven-year-old model. Photography by Karolina Magnowska.
At Pastelowe Marzenia, we print selected designs and test them during real photography sessions. This allows us to assess the true scale of the design, how it behaves in the frame, the options for positioning the model and the way the set works with lighting and props.
This time I tested photography backdrop design 2876. The aim was not to present one finished arrangement. I wanted to see how many different photographs could be created with the same set simply by changing the outfit, pose and a few small accessories.
What backdrop size did I use?
For this test I chose a 250 × 200 cm backdrop and a matching 250 × 200 cm floor. This combination was sufficient for portraits, seated poses and some full-length shots.
The same design works for both full-length photographs and quieter seated compositions.
How did I arrange the lighting?
I used one Profoto B1 500 Air TTL light with a 165 cm white umbrella with a black exterior and a diffuser. I wanted soft light with natural-looking shadows. I also partially uncovered the window on the left, allowing the flash to blend with the available light.
I set the flash power to approximately 3.8 on a scale from 1 to 10. This setting applies to my studio and this particular session. In a different room, the settings need to be adjusted to the distance, the amount of window light and the modifier being used.

These settings are a record of this real test, not a universal formula for every studio.
How many different frames can one set provide?
With a seven-year-old model, I did not want to make the session unnecessarily long. Even so, we created several different images on the same backdrop: standing and seated photographs, portraits and frames with props. The bench can be moved closer to the centre, the small fence can be placed in front of the house and simple accessories can give the child something natural to do with their hands.
Clothing and colours
I prepared three different outfits for the test: a romantic white dress, a natural-looking beige dress and a blue denim-style dress. Each outfit changed the mood of the photographs even though the backdrop and the basic arrangement remained the same.
The design is dominated by shades of blue, white, green, natural wood and delicate rust-coloured details. Natural colours work particularly well here, as do clothes in white, beige, blue and yellow. This makes it possible to prepare several stylistically different sets without introducing colours that feel accidental.
Props that help during a children’s session
I used a bench, wooden stools, baskets, flowers, a watering can, a small fence and a soft toy. These elements do more than complete the arrangement. They give the child a specific activity: holding a bouquet, watering the flowers, sitting down, leaning on something or playing with a prop.
You do not need to use every accessory at once. Some can remain outside the frame and be introduced in later photographs. This way, one set can produce a much wider variety of images.
Editing and the character of the photographs
The blues and natural wooden accessories allow the photographs to be edited in different ways. You can retain a cooler, fresh appearance or add a little warmth. In this session, the priority was to keep the skin tone consistent and the shades of blue clear without making them excessively saturated.
- Design 2876 worked well for standing and seated photographs, portraits and full-length frames.
- For greater freedom when photographing the full figure, I would choose a 290 cm wide backdrop.
- One light with a large modifier and a partially uncovered window produced soft, natural-looking light.
- Changing the outfit and a few props was enough to create different stories within the same set.
- For another session, I would prepare even more seated compositions and position the small fence closer to the house.
